I think DS/Frenzy is viable but likely harder than WW, so if you’re not going to respec, the slog with Conc until lvl 30 might be a good method. Putting a Shael in it and upping as well used to be a fun twink in legacy, but not really feasible SSF obviously.

I would go with mace mastery because you have the flail in act 2 normal with sockets you can use, then you have somewhat common maces like bonesnap and IK maul. I completely agree about having Howl at the ready to get out of trouble (plus synergy for Berserk). My favorite build for hc is Sword/Board Conc/Berserk hybrid. As mentioned, mace mastery is usually preferred for early leveling. Lastly, no matter which build you choose, you will likely want to have Howl at the ready to scare off the trash mobs for safety and so that you can solo-out the unique and champion monsters. Concentrate also gets a damage bonus from battle orders, which will be even more important for hardcore. Concentrate’s defense bonus should prove helpful for hardcore. All things considered, I would probably go with mace mastery and normal attack until you can use concentrate at level 18.
